Meet the Experts
Tom Anderson – CAIB
Tom is the President of ABC Insurance and a commercial lines account manager. He started with ABC in 1982 and received his CAIB (Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker) designation in 1989. Tom has been very active in the insurance industry as a past board member of The Insurance Brokers Association of Nova Scotia. He is also a strong supporter of minor sports and many local charities. Tom is currently on the board of directors for Special Olympics Nova Scotia and enjoys volunteering at their summer games.
After a 17 year career with a major bank, Connie joined ABC Insurance in 1998 in the roll of Accounting Manager. Connie enjoys skating, golf, and family time. Connie was the head coach for HRM Learn to Skate for over 20 years at the Spryfield Lions Rink.
Mark Anderson – CAIB, B. Comm
Mark has been with ABC Insurance since Dec. 2009 as a Personal and Commercial lines Broker. Mark a Saint Marys University Commerce graduate has successfully completed his CAIB designation and is working towards his CIP designation. Mark has served as the President of the Young Broker Network of Nova Scotia and has represented the province at the IBAC Parliament Hill events in Ottawa. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Lacrosse Nova Scotia and has coached numerous provincial Lacrosse teams as well as the Saint Mary’s Field Lacrosse team. Mark’s biggest athletic accomplishments include serving as the Head Coach for the Nova Scotia Provincial Jr. Founders Lacrosse team which won their first ever medal in 2014 as well as representing Atlantic Canada for 3 years at the Ales Hrebesky International Lacrosse tournament held in the Czech Republic. On a personal note he also includes golf and spending time with his family.
Haley joined ABC Insurance in September of 2012. She graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Sociology Degree and upon graduation she obtained her Broker License. She has taught Learn to Skate with her mother Connie Anderson in the local community for over 10 years. Haley currently holds her CAIB 3 designation and is working towards CAIB 4. Haley is the Director of Marketing for ABC Insurance. In her spare time she enjoys playing various sports and spending time with her family and friends.
Shelley Belcher – CAIB
Shelley joined ABC Insurance as a Personal Lines broker in July 2014. She has been in the insurance industry for over 10 years with an additional 3 years international experience. She completed her CAIB (Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker) designation after moving from South Africa 10 years ago to Nova Scotia. Shelley loves gardening and enjoys exploring the outdoors with her two dogs and husband.
Angela joined ABC Insurance in June 2001 in the role of Accounts Administrator. Prior to working for ABC Insurance, Angela worked for MacPhee Pontiac Buick G.M.C in an administrative position. Angela is responsible for daily updates to client files ensuring they are kept in proper order.
Briagh Fergusson – CAIB
Briagh joined ABC Insurance in November 2015 as a Personal Lines Broker for Home and Auto. Briagh graduated from Saint Mary s University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Sociology and a minor in Psychology. Prior to joining ABC Insurance Briagh worked in the insurance industry for over a year as well as in the mental health field; Briagh recently passed her CAIB 4 exam and now holds her CAIB designation. On a personal note, she loves spending time with her dog, family and friends and traveling the world.
Olivia is an Account Manager and has been in the insurance industry since 2015. She is working to obtain her CAIB and CIP designations. Olivia enjoys baking, kayaking, camping, and spending time with family and friends, especially her husband, daughter, and dog.
Carmen Kerr – B. Comm
Carmen Kerr has been with ABC Insurance since January 1999. Carmen has been in the insurance industry since 1995 and is currently the Personal Lines Office Manager. Carmen graduated from St. Mary’s University in 1994 with her Bachelor Of Commerce majoring in management and human resources. She finds the industry ever changing and looks forward to the challenges of fitting the customer’s needs.
Luke Keun is a Commercial Account Manager who works with business clients to ensure proper insurance coverage is in-force at a reasonable cost. Luke has a strong work ethic that he employs to ensure that his clients are well taken care of. having worked during his early years in a retail environment and transitioning to various Customer Service roles within the industry, Luke is well suited to tending to your business insurance needs. A 2012 Atlantic Region Employee of the Year and one of the Top 50 Brokers Under 40 years of age (“Young Gun”) in Canada, Luke has garnered accolades at each step of his career. Luke is a Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) with experience in Personal Lines, Life, Living Benefits and Commercial Insurance. Shorty after graduating in 2010 with a bachelor of Arts – Political Science degree from University of King’s College, Luke started in the insurance industry, following in his mother’s footsteps.
Paul M. Lewis – BBA, RHU
Paul became affiliated with ABC Insurance in 1994 as the Insurance and Investment Advisor, dealing with Life Insurance, Retirement Portfolios, Employee Benefits. Paul operates as an independent advisor/broker. Paul has worked in the Insurance and Financial Services industry since 1992 and is the Managing Partner of his own firm, Granville Group Financial Consultants. His ability to deal with numerous insurance and financial institutions has allowed him to provide our clients with innovative solutions and quality financial products. Paul deals with individuals, business owners and professionals and his specialties include Investment Planning, Business Succession, Tax and Estate Planning.
Some of the coverage and services Paul offers include: Term Life; Tax-sheltered Plans; Mortgage Insurance; Disability Income Protection; Critical Illness; Health and Dental Plans. Investment and Retirement Planning: RRSP’s, TFSA’s, RRIF’s, Annuities; and RESP’s.
Kayleene joined ABC Insurance in April 2014 for work experience towards her college program at NSCC. She successfully graduated with an Office Administration Certificate in the spring of 2014 and became a full-time employee as Personal Lines Support. Kayleene is working towards her CAIB. She enjoys spending time outdoors with family and friends.
Brian joined ABC Insurance in January 2004 as a Personal Lines Account Manager for home & auto. Prior to joining ABC Insurance, Brian worked in the retail industry for Zellers Canada.
Janet joined ABC Insurance in November 2015 as an Insurance Broker, bringing with her 40 years experience in the Insurance Industry. Janet started her insurance career at an early age and has held a variety of positions with Insurers predominantly before moving over to the Broker side of the business. Janet enjoys meeting her customers and being able to service their insurance needs. Aside from working, Janet enjoys travelling with her family and was fortunate to travel across Canada by train a few times. She enjoys trying new recipes and makes preserves each fall from the bounty from her garden.
Keith Moir – CAIB
Keith is a Commercial Account Manager and has a background in the insurance industry through his family that stretches back to the 1960’s and includes his Father, Godfather, and Grandfather. Born, educated, and raised in the Halifax, Dartmouth area he has several years of insurance experience and with a common sense approach he identifies solutions for his clients from the customer’s perspective. Keith is a resident of Dartmouth with his wife Maria and they have a Son and a Daughter in university.
Philip joined ABC Insurance in January 2011. He currently works as a Commercial Lines Broker. He began his insurance career in 2000 and has a wealth of experience in the industry. Outside of work Philip enjoys an active lifestyle and spending time with his children.
With over 35 years experience in the Insurance Industry, Marilyn joined us in 2016 as a part time receptionist. She retired from a major Insurance Company in December 2012, and since that time she has decided to work part time. Marilyn is also responsible for adding new business to our broker portal. When not at work, Marilyn enjoys gardening, baking, cooking and spending time with her family and friends. She has lived in Dartmouth for the past 25 years with her Husband and son.
Joanne Toplis joined ABC Insurance in July 2007 as a Receptionist. Prior to starting her position with ABC Insurance, Joanne worked as a receptionist for Trader Corporation. Joanne holds a diploma in Computer Support Technology from CompuCollege and a diploma in accounting from NSCC.
